Abstract
The microprocessor market is booming, the outlook for mainframes is bullish, and the demand for new software exceeds the supply. And yet, the state of computer technology today recalls the student who complained to the Cambridge philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein: “I have a problem. I do not feel at home in the universe.”
