Aerospace and military projects planned early in the 1970s hit paydirt last year, and at least one project that could influence integrated-circuit design through the 1980s got under way. The astounding encounters of Voyager spacecraft with Jupiter and Pioneer spacecraft with Saturn and Venus have led to the redrawing of planetary maps and promise to rewrite theories of the solar system.
