Abstract :
Flat arrays of solar ceils in a fixed orientation are likely to be preferred in the temperate zones of the world to convert the sun´s energy to electric power on a large scale. In these zones, the skies are often partly cloudy or hazy, and much of the sunlight is diffuse rather than direct. Because it can accept diffuse sunlight, a flat fixed array can collect in these zones at least as much solar energy in a year as a sun-tracking array with concentrators.
