Abstract :
Temporal decomposition (TD) is used to compress speech spectral information in very low-rate coding. The authors have shown earlier that further compression of such information is achieved by approximation of speech `events´ using fixed-width simple functions. A new technique is introduced to improve event approximation performance using `variable-width´ composite functions
