Abstract :
The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) and the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) have jointly sponsored the Invention and Entrepreneurship in Robotics and Automation (IERA) award since 2005. The purpose of this award is to highlight and honor the achievements of the inventors with valuable creative ideas and entrepreneurs who propel those ideas into world-class products. On 8June 2010, in a session at the International Symposium on Robotics (ISR) held in Munich, the six finalists presented their proposals and took questions from both the IERA award jury members and the audience. The award jury consisted of three members each from IFR (Prof. Ake Lindqvist, Prof. Rolf Schraft, and Dr. Hiroshi Fujiwara) and IEEE (Prof. Klas Nilsson, Prof. Erwin Prassler, and Dr. Raj Madhavan). Prof. Alexander Verl, founder and managing director of AMATEC Robotics GmbH and head of Fraunhofer IP A, won the IERj award for his submission "Inline Measurement Robots-Robots Get the Precision for Car Body inspection.
