Abstract :
Monitoring of critical phenomena such as water pollution represents one of the most relevant issues that Europeans are worried about. Recent smart integrated systems/tools to support capabilities for “early warning” and collaborative decision making on natural disasters, can successfully be applied to this scope integrating brilliant hi-tech solutions like advanced satellite platforms, swarm intelligence based on useful devices for the fast, simple, cheap and reliable screening of many real samples like biosensors and data mining. This paper describes the architecture and design of a potential cost effective solution to overcome the limits encountered by some important end-users (e.g. the Institute for Environmental Protection and Research ISPRA, the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection ARPA) in the prompt detection and in the effective dissemination of the pre/post occurrence information to the competence centers, and from these to the in field professionals.
