    Flat-panel-matrix displays have been improved to the point that they can now be considered for many applications that were formerly the exclusive domain of the cathode-ray tube. This discussion covers the state of the art, characteristics, and potential applications of the liquid crystal, light-emitting diode, and plasma matrix displays.
