Abstract
The paper studies the induced electromagnetic perturbation in telecommunication cables placed nearby electrical cables due to high value fault currents produced by lightning strokes. A Fourier series decomposition by harmonic analysis of the lightning fault current has been done. For each harmonic component the produced electromagnetic field and the corresponding induced current density distribution is evaluated. Finally the time domain form of the induced electromagnetic perturbation in the communication cable due to lightning fault currents is determined.
