  • Abstract
A similar change to the introduction of decimal coinage is taking place in the measuring systems used in Britain. The imperial system of measurement is being replaced by the metric units of the `Systÿme Internationale d´Unités¿ (SI) based on the metre and kilogramme. The decision to adopt the metric system was made by the British Government on the recommendations of British industry. Metrication is now under way, with programmes and standards produced by national bodies providing guidance to those involved.
