Abstract
The optimum shape of the inner conductor of a coaxial resonator with constant resonance frequency yielding maximum Q is obtained by applying the Rayleigh-Ritz method for the analysis and the conjugate gradient method for function maximisation. The shape of the inner conductor is approximated by a polygon and the resulting quality factor increase is 8.8%
