The writer undertakes to demonstrate that the expression D² L (D = Rotor diameter, L = Ne iron length) as used in the electrical design does not meet modern requirements. He advocates the replacing of it by D × V, where V stands for the volume of the rotor. The reasons and advantages of the new form are expounded and it is shown how a series of extremely useful relationships follow the new formula.
