Abstract :
A high-power proton linac (linear accelerator) is being proposed for the next generation tritium source for accelerator production of tritium (APT). The proposed proton linac requires a substantial continuous wave (CW) RF system. This paper presents an overview of accelerator-based tritium production and the details of the CW RF system design. Based on the current tritium production requirement, the proposed accelerator will require in excess of 200 MW of installed CW RF power. The availability requirements for the RF system are quite high and an efficient low-cost approach to providing redundancy will be discussed. Also presented are the baseline choices for the RF sources as well as our technology development goals and how they impact the RF system design
