Abstract :
For the first time, over 1W of optical power has been coupled into single-mode fibre from a single semiconductor laser diode operating at 1.45 μm. This device meets the need for a compact high power source for pumping of erbium-doped fibre amplifiers and for Raman amplification in fibres
