Abstract :
The propagation characteristics of a silicon-clad planar diffused optical waveguide as a function of wavelength are investigated theoretically. Results for several different waveguide parameters are shown. The results obtained shown that attenuation of the propagating mode in this waveguide is highly dependent on wavelength. Moreover, this attenuation characteristic can be controlled by waveguide parameters such as the refractive index of a buffer layer and a substrate, and the thickness of a silicon-cladding layer. As a result, the silicon-clad planar diffused optical waveguides can be used as optical frequency filters
