Abstract :
In the paper, the application of the controllable series compensator (CSC) in damping power system oscillations is investigated on the basis of the Phillips-Heffron model, which is established for a general n-machine power system. The capability of the CSC damping control to provide damping to the power system is analysed in terms of its damping torque contribution both for single-machine infinite-bus and multimachine power systems. Brief guidelines for the design of the CSC damping controller are given and demonstrated on sample power systems
