Abstract :
The First Women´s Workshop on Communications and Signal Processing was held at the Banff International Research Station (BIRS) July 13-15. It brought together 27 women researchers for a weekend of technical presentations, posters and networking. The workshop was organized by Sheila Hemami (Cornell University), Urbashi Mitra (University of Southern California), Milica Stojanovic (Northeastern University), and Katie Wilson (Santa Clara University). The primary focus of this workshop was academic research, but we believe this workshop model could be adapted for women in industry as well. We would like to thank BIRS, the Office of Naval Research, the IEEE Signal Processing Society, and the IEEE Communications Society for their grants, which helped make the workshop possible. More information can be found at http://www.birs.ca/events/2012/2-day-workshops/12w2147.
