Abstract :
The IEE Faraday Medallist for 2000, Mike Brady, is using the lessons of his pioneering work in machine vision and robotics to transform the capabilities of medical imaging systems. The author traces the common themes in a remarkable career which started in pure mathematics and moved on to computing. Following a time at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT working with mostly fixed robots, Brady moved to Oxford where he worked with mobile robots. Following family illnesses he looked at the link between medical imaging, robobtics and machine vision which led to the improvement of medical MRI systems
