Abstract :
With so many problems besetting potential providers of handheld satellite communications, it would seem that any new entrant would do so with great trepidation. Yet, significant contrasts in implementation philosophies and system embodiments between the various proposed offerings can cause dramatic differences in potential profitability and the overall value proposition. The Asia Cellular Satellite (ACeS) system, for instance, is about to initiate handheld services in the Asia-Pacific region. This article highlights some of the salient characteristics that position ACeS for success
