Abstract :
A novel, low-cost glass-ceramic ferrule has been developed which is manufactured by the mother rod preform drawing process. It can be used as a singlemode SC-type optical connector in place of a zirconia ferrule. A low average connection loss of 0.05 dB and a high durability of 500 mating cycles were obtained using this ferrule
