Abstract :
The oscillation in attenuation of >3 dB with wavelength in SC-type fixed optical attenuators with attenuation values >15 dB has been effectively suppressed by reducing the coupling between the cladding and core modes in optical absorption fibres. This has been achieved by increasing the refractive index in the outer part of the cladding; polarisation dependent loss (PDL) has also been drastically reduced
