Abstract :
Active sonar systems are faced with the difficult task of detecting moving targets in strong reverberation environments. Since the effective whitening of the reverberation cannot be accomplished with a fixed notch filter, a filter structure to recover target signals obscured by the reverberation is proposed. The proposed scheme consists of an adaptive filter and a fixed filter. The optimum and suboptimum solutions are also considered. Numerical experiments for a shallow-water active sonar system are performed to examine the potential of the proposed structure for target signal enhancement problems
