Abstract
This paper presents and discusses results of numerical simulation of the novel design of an image intensifier. Contrary to the traditional configuration, this intensifier has a rectangular geometry, but a much larger number of electrodes than the cylindrical device, in order to imitate the axisymmetrical electric field distribution. The optical characteristics are determined by numerically tracing the trajectories of electrons ejected from the input screen/photocathode assembly and reconstructing the output image. The results presented show the feasibility of the idea of a nonaxisymmetrical image intensifier
