Abstract :
Summary form only given. On-line dynamic security assessment (DSA) is a technology that has been enjoying increased attention and deployment around the world, driven by the clear benefits from the application experiences reported by existing users. However, as a relatively new application in control rooms, this technology is also evolving quickly to meet the ever challenging demand from system operations. This presentation first summarizes the achievements made so far for on-line DSA, in terms of · Computational features · Algorithm development · Modeling practices · Interface with other real-time applications · Software and hardware deployment issues Discussions will then be made on the future trends of on-line DSA. This will touch on issues such as · Use of node/breaker models · Better external system equivalencing · Determination of remedial actions to mitigate stability problems · Applications of on-line DSA technologies in non-traditional areas, for example, power market settlement, dispatcher training simulator, etc.
