Abstract :
The paper discusses validation of vendor-specific wind turbine generator (WTG) stability models being developed by WTG manufacturers. Considered are qualitative and quantitative approaches to the validation and related metrics and criteria. Rather than proposing a concrete validation framework and specific metrics and criteria for the assessment of the adequacy of a model, the paper considers the philosophy of validation and essential aspects of its process as they are seen from the perspective of wind generation interconnection studies. Recommendations are made on how the validation process can be enhanced, with an emphasis on representativeness and comprehensiveness of validation tests and on what data can be considered to be a proof of the adequacy of a WTG model.
