Abstract :
In many cases the capacity of a network to endure a fault without ensuing major problems or long blackouts is related to the capacity to locate and isolate the faulty section. Transmission grids already have in general an evolved fault localization mechanism thanks to many distance protections, unlike distribution grids. This paper describes a fault localization method for heterogeneous distribution networks that could be deployed thanks to today´s smart grid developments. The present method is valid for networks with a neutral grounding through an impedance and for single or multiphase near bolted fault.
