Abstract
In this article, the authors have attempted to trace what they believe to be the development of minimally invasive techniques using microwave balloon systems in therapeutic medicine. The authors also address the potential future use of the technologies in cancer therapy, as well as point to future improvements in the development of RF/microwave balloon catheters. The authors´s hope is that readers will find possible uses for microwave balloons in other areas of medicine. Since the authors have been involved in medical research in the areas described for many years, some of the material and figures have been adapted, with permission, from previous material published by the authors, and are all referenced.
