Abstract :
Hardware and software trends in 1978 are discussed, illustrating typical examples of microcomputer applications in a small-business community. It is suggested that the trend of using computer kits is disappearing; many fully assembled products are available and their extensive utilisation is expected to grow even faster when more applications software packages will be available. Main characteristics of four fully-wired and tested microcomputers are tabulated (Apple II, PET 2001, Sorcerer, Compucolor II) Amongst applications discussed are: payroll/accounting, inventory, filing, estimating job costs for contract bidding, law cases preparation, prediction of property investment returns and education.
