Abstract :
The influence of cascaded optical cross connects including crosstalk on the transparency length is measured with a new double-path loop setup. In addition, numerical simulations were performed to evaluate the bit-error rate and to test the variability of the crosstalk model. It is found that inband crosstalk per crossconnect should be smaller -40 dB for 2000-km trunk line, 10-Gb/s transmission, and eight cross connects.
