Abstract :
In a previous column, August, p. 19, we reviewed the concerns about the engineering educational process, giving particular notice to the situation in the U.S. We observed that the following issues are of greatest concern to U.S. educators: (1) poor equipment, (2) low graduate enrollents, (3) disproportionate enrollment of non-U.S. students, particularly at the graduate level, (4) low academic salaries, and (5) a need for enhanced cooperation between academia and industry.
