Abstract
A novel control strategy for power smoothing in wind energy applications is presented. The compensation system is based on a vector controlled, pulsewidth modulation (PWM) inverter fed, induction machine driving a flywheel. The DC link voltage (the system output) is stabilised using a fuzzy controller together with the feedforward compensation of load disturbances. Experimental results, showing excellent performance, obtained with a 2.5 kW prototype are discussed
