Abstract :
The implements of the wide-area control systems (WACS) are still great challenges. This paper proposed an application of a wide-area power system stabilizer (WPSS) system in Guizhou Power Grid (GPG) in southwest China. The structure of WPSS is introduced with newly designed networked control unit (NCU) and implement of downlink communication. Also, several key techniques for this application are introduced. To verify the proposed WPSS system, an RTDS hardware in-the-loop test is carried out with the simulation of GPG including 104 buses and 39 generators in it. The test results demonstrate that, the proposed WPSS can realize the networked wide-area control effectively with high performance. The proposed WPSS system is being operated in GPG, and it became the first WPSS application in the world.
