Where will all the VLSI circuits go? This. question has been raised by observers fearing too small a market for very complex, high-density chips. Yet, the question seems not to have deterred semiconductor manufacturers in the U.S. and elsewhere, who, in the past year, pressed toward universal objectives-logic chips of 100 000 to 200 000 transistors or more and million-bit memory chips.
