Abstract :
The control performance of a conventional fixed parameter automatic voltage regulator (AVR) varies significantly with the generator load and operating situation, giving rise to design difficulties and operational limitations. A new form of auxiliary control loop for an AVR, utilising direct and quadrature axes signals, is proposed which accounts for the influence of the generator load. This loop not only provides consistent voltage control performance over the generator operating range but also improves the stability characteristics of the basic AVR, thereby extending the operational range of the generator and system
