Abstract
The problems posed by closer research ties among universities, commercial companies, state governments, and the federal government are examined. These include such issues as publication problems, research profits, faculty conflict of interest, and research restrictions. Nevertheless, the proliferation of new cooperative research arrangements seems to be welcomed by both industry and universities.
