Abstract :
A complete 18-bit dual voltage-out audio DAC (digital-to-analog converter) was developed on a 2 μm BiCMOS process with laser-trimmable SiCr thin film resistors. A combination of segmented elements and R-2R networks was chosen to achieve high performance while maintaining low power consumption and a small die size. The device operates from a single 5 V supply with 50 mW power dissipation. It achieves 0.004% (-88 dB) THD (total harmonic distortion)+noise, 97.5 dB signal-to-noise ratio, and 115 dB channel separation. The die size is 2.65 mm×3.43 mm (104 mil ×135mil)
