  • Abstract
A prototype common indoor receiving unit for two similar PCM (pulse code modulation) sound broadcasting systems in the 12 GHz band that, respectively, use a broadcasting satellite and a communication satellite (CS) has been developed. Advanced technologies such as high-speed Viterbi soft decision and an MSK (minimum shift keying) demodulator are adopted in the receiver. The performance of the receiver was verified in laboratory transmission tests. In the case of the CS system, the carrier-to-noise ratio to maintain sufficient sound quality is about 5 dB
