Abstract :
This paper describes a novel compact permanent-magnet synchronous motor with a configuration of axial-field slotted windings. It is designed for driving an artificial heart. Both the motor rotor and the pump impeller of the artificial heart are levitated by a magnetic bearing. Structure description, design considerations, and analyses for the motor and bearing are presented in this paper
