Abstract :
Labeling equipment is an effective method of alerting personnel about shock and arc-flash hazards as well as providing details of necessary protective clothing and procedures. Since arc-flash labeling is intended to protect the worker, it is particularly helpful to consider the various ways in which labeling can go wrong. It is in the best interests of all to avoid any situation that could lead to either a false sense of security or excessive personal protective equipment (PPE). This is a real-life collection of examples from facilities having arc-flash labeling programs in which corrections were needed to the labels, personnel training, and maintenance.
