Abstract :
TV newspapers called PRESENT are multimedia information broadcasting services which provide information programs consisting of text, still pictures, video, and sound. PRESENT is an important application of ISDB and provides interactive programs with easy operation. This paper first describes the basic functions of the multimedia information broadcasting services, interactive program presentation, multimedia structuring, and indexing. Second, systems for realizing interactive presentation in the broadcasting services are discussed and the stored reception system is found to be appropriate for the PRESENT system. Multimedia structuring methods are also discussed and the layout structure, the logical structure, and the hyper-link structure for PRESENT are optimized. It is shown that the automatic indexing method plays an important role in providing effective information access for users. Finally, these services are tested using the experimental PRESENT system which is designed to use satellite broadcast data channels
