Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC, NYSE: SMI, SEHK: 981), the largest and most advanced semiconductor wafer foundry in mainland China, announced on Friday, 5 August 2011, the appointment of Tzu-Yin Chiu as CEO and executive director of the board, ending the series of unfortunate events affecting the company´s future for more than a month since the death of its nonexecutive board chair, Shangzhou Jiang, on 27 June.
