Abstract :
Vertical integration at the integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) has been a norm in the semiconductor industry for many years. More than 20% of worldwide semiconductor revenue now comes from fabless companies, however. This article will first provide a brief historical perspective on the origins, benefits, and challenges of vertical integration. A view of the growth of the fabless ecosystem and the fabless semiconductor industry will follow.
