Abstract
The drums of publicity reverberated loudly when the Microelectronics & Computer Technology Corp. was formed ¿ but not for long. After being set up in 1983 by 10 otherwise competing U.S. computer and semiconductor companies to upstage Japanese computer advances, MCC remained silent about its work. After declaring its goal ¿ making the founding shareholders able to introduce ¿fifth-generation¿ computer technology before Japan did ¿ it faded from public view.
