Abstract :
A Brillouin fiber-optic gyro with directional sensitivity is experimentally demonstrated. The proposed configuration utilizes phase diversity to produce two types of signal with 90/spl deg/ phase difference. While the frequency of the obtained signal corresponds to the applied rotation rate, their phase difference shows the rotation direction. The scheme basically gives no perturbation to the operation of the fiber Brillouin ring laser.
