Abstract :
A novel active filter circuit configuration, including its control algorithm, suitable for power applications is presented which provides an alternative approach to that presently employed. The configuration uses current or voltage source inverter circuits. The main advantages of the proposed circuit are that both the sizes of the capacitors and the switching frequencies are much lower than those in the inverter based filters. Consequently, the system and switching losses are considerably reduced. Moreover, switching devices can withstand higher values of currents at lower frequencies as compared with higher frequency inverter circuits. The theoretical basis for the linear voltage controller, which is used in this work, is fully developed and simulation and experimental results are included
