Abstract :
The so-called transmission-line model for an upward-traveling lightning stroke is often employed by the atmospheric and electromagnetic compatibility community. Simple expressions are obtained for the radiation fields of an idealized lightning channel. The model is an attenuated traveling current, which is perpendicular to a perfectly conducting ground plane. The enhancement of the radiation field at higher elevation angles is confirmed following Krider´s (1992) prediction
