Abstract :
Energy efficiency in communications has become a topic of increasing interest, and we are glad to feature it in the magazine. The response to the call for papers was so overwhelming that, in addition to the articles published in this month¿s issue, an entire issue in 2011 is dedicated to carrying the remainder of the accepted articles. Since we are electronics engineers and neither climate scientists nor meteorologists, the magazine does not intend to take a policy position on the potential relationship between energy use and the climate. However, regardless of one¿s views on the climate, there is no shortage of compelling reasons for increasing the energy efficiency of communications systems.
