Abstract :
A reliable model for UHF radio-wave signal propagation into and variability within buildings is required to aid the planning of cellular mobile radio systems serving portable transceivers. A study of this problem has been undertaken in New Zealand with the aim of developing a model suitable for New Zealand buildings and situations. Measurements were made at 851 MHz in the central business district of Auckland in eight representative buildings illuminated from two different base station sites. The measured cumulative probability density function of the received signal on a floor of a building was found to be best modelled by the Suzuki (Rayleigh plus log-normal) distribution with a free space based model used for predicting the median signal level.<>
