Abstract :
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory has had a long interest in optical communications for use in deep space exploration missions. Laser communication technology offers the promise of significant advantages over RF in terms of communication system performance, and spacecraft mass and power savings. This paper describes the activities at JPL to evaluate optical communication systems for use on deep space exploration spacecraft
