Identified as this meeting is with the work of the Institute, it is perhaps natural that you should entertain a healthy curiosity as to the nature of the parallel work of another organization whose aim it is, equally, to disseminate knowledge of the arts and sciences. If I can this evening establish in your minds the idea of a similarity of function and usefulness in the two institutions I shall be satisfied.
