Abstract :
In the above-titled paper, E.F. Cuddihy (ibid., vol.EI-22, p.573-89, Oct. 1987) used a binomial function as an approximate representation of the ratio of average to maximum field strength for point-plane electrode systems. The commenter shows that (1) the binomial expression given is not the correct approximation; (2) in application to experimental results the binomial function is used for situations in which it is no longer a good approximation; and (3) the two models proposed, namely tip-ground and tip-tip, are identical in all circumstance and do not have different binomial approximation as stated.<>
